Parent Youth Combined Meeting - 19 Dec 2007

It's been a long time but we're finally back at it once more, and with lots of new faces too. Welcome to those who are new to our ministry. Thanks to all those who made an effort to come down.

The venue was Uncle Francis' house. We started punctually at 7.45 pm, with a bunch of carols. The spirited singing was followed by 2 games. Sometimes as the host you do not really get to know how fun the games actually are.

We first broke up into 2 teams, one consisting of the adults (by no order of merit) : Pastor Peter, Esther, Bruce, Samuel, Monica, Francis, Jessica and Jiahao, and one consisting of the youths : Dorcas, Abner, JoyAnn, Lydia, Carissa, Racheal, Davy and Darius.

We first tried out spelling words backwards. This tough task was made all the more difficult when we made 1 member of each team were required to step up in a 1v1 setting against 1 member of the other team. With the help of Justin in the judging, we went through a list of words. The final scores showed the adults team leading by 2points at the end of the game.

We then carried on with the second game. The new challenge was to guess a word by getting clues by asking questions. Teams took turns to ask questions until the word was able to be guessed. To describe what happended would take a very long time, so we will just roll on to the result.

After the total scores of the 2 games were combined, the final score was that the team of adults won, in an extremely close fight.

We moved on to the interview session. An exciting discussion began, covering everything from memorable moments, to classroom situations, to teachers, to friends, to CCAs, and so on. Lots of advise, lots of fun memories, lots of personal views of how to deal with many different situations.

We also dug into the food that was laid out, an excellent spread.

I thank all those who have contributed in one way or another, for opening their home to welcome this meeting, for putting in effort to buy and prepare the food, for participating so openly, and even just for coming and adding to the atmosphere.

I enjoyed every moment of this event, and look forward to the many more that are ahead. I really wish you came, don't you?

Friendship Nite - 31 Aug 2007

What a night! Thanks to all those who worked so hard to make the event a resounding success. Thanks to all those who came, hope you all had a great time.

The place was YMCA, the highlight was the magic show, the focus was the great message of Christ's gift for us. For pictures and further details of what took place, please proceed to our sister blog, gbcsml.blogspot.com.

My prayer is for those that received the message to really spend some time thinking about it, and seriously consider your eternal salvation.

Soul Garden meal - 25Aug07

Well nothing much to talk about for this one, the title basically says it all. Had a good time enjoying our meal at Soul Garden at Causeway Point.

Spending Time with God 'Devotion' - 05 Aug 2007

Hi all. Aaron Yee reporting for GBCGYM.blogspot.com news agency. Extemely delayed telecast. Can't really remember what happened. I'll try my best.

We proceeded directly to my house for youth meeting from church. Those present were, Me, Abner, Dorcas, Ting, Jiahao and guest speaker Pastor Peter. Lunch was a sumptious KFC meal, in the comfort air-con in the computer room.

After a few songs, we proceeded to play a game 0-0-7-bang-ah, which had us laughing till we were falling off our chairs, thanks to 3 of us who seemed extremely unable to keep the chain going. (No names necessary, find out yourself)

After which, we had a short time of considering what was personal devotion, lead by our guest speaker. We explored a few verses in the Bible, and were asked to come up with a summary of what it should be. We finally came up with the conclusion that devotion is a lifestyle.

We closed off with an emotional guitar solo of 'As the Deer' by Jiahao and the meeting was closed by with prayer.

We all had a great time, brought back some new knowledge and had created some enjoyable memories. Do join us next time.

For GBCGYM.blogspot.com news agency, this is Aaron signing off.

Quest Hunt 21 July 2007

Hello everyone. I'm sure all of you who came remember the wonderful time we had at the Botanical Gardens doing the wonderfully planned Quest Hunt on the 21 July.

It was half-raining when we set out for the Botanic Gardens, the sky was gray and the place was rather humid - not exactly the theoratical ideal, but the in fact the ideal in practice for running about the area like mad chickens looking for leftover corn.

Anyway, 9 people showed up [Aaron, Abner, Wei Li, Dong Shen, Yong Shen, Michelle, Boon Ling, Tom and Dorcas(who was late because of archery practice and do so beg your pardon)]. Aaron decided the area to meet was to be at the Bandstand. Which, although seemed quite 'findable' on the map, was not so much in practice due to the overwhelming flora and fauna - in other words, some people got lost.

We started out of the 3rd quest first, which was the search for statues located in the Botanic Gardens and take pictures with them. After lots of running around (at least for one group), the group 1 consisting of Dong Shen, Yong Shen and Tom beat group 2 consisting of Abner, Wei Li, Michelle and Boon Ling. [You should have got them running, Abner]

After a short water and breathing break, the two groups embarked on the next two quests (1 and 2 actually), with the addition of Dorcas to group 1. This time, quest 1 required the groups to locate several items in different places in the Botanic Gardens and (again) take pictures with said items. Quest 2 required of them to go to several places and find information to fill in the blanks of several questions.

After a long, long while (due to the distance from the places to the bandstand - YES, GO AHEAD, TORTURE US AARON!). The groups returned, sweating like polar bears in the Tropics. Again, group 1 won over group 2 for both quests - in fact, group 2 only managed to do quest 3, while group 1 managed to do both quests. (Told ya you should have got them running, huh, Abner?)

And after the prize presentation, with the prizes being as usual, lots of nice snacks (we should make a change one day... hmm...). We departed after a short rest, and went home merrily with new memories to take home with us.^^

...

Don't you wish the rest of you guys came? ^^

Youth meeting 8 Jul - What is Christianity to me

We had an enjoyable time, with food and fellowship during our youth meeting on Sunday, 8 July. A total of 9 people were present, 4 youths (I still count myself youth haha) 3 adults, and 2 soon to be youth.

The meeting place was a last minute decision, when we decided to proceed to Delifrance, Chinatown Point. It was an excellent setting for just a good meal and a good chat. Thank God for providing us an ideal place.

After everyone made it there, we ordered our meal. When the food arrived, we 'officially' started our youth meeting with prayer and thanks for the food. Then, we ate!!

After the main courses, we decided to have a game of 'I never'. We had a really fun time of sharing about each others' experiences. With the final sharing resulting in probably the best laugh of the day, eating cooked insects. (You've got to join us more to enjoy the really good laughs we have, it's worth it)

After our desert, we proceeded on to life sharing by our invited guests, the Tan family. Aunty Jessica began first, telling us about her life, from conversion till commitment. That was followed by Uncle Francis, on the same topic. They both gave exciting and enriching accounts of their lives, certainly engaging the audience and leaving them wanting more.

Finally, we closed with some sharing from the floor before we closed with a word of prayer. With the sky looking threatening as we left the restraunt, we then parted ways for our own homes.

Word of thanks to all those present for the youth meeting, specially making time to be present. For those who could not make it, you've got to come next time, the laughs we have are well worth it. Thanks also for the lunch treat (For the one paying of course).

Most importantly, thanks to God for once again being present, sharing in our joys and sorrows throughout this journey called life. Thanks also for the meeting place, for a time we never knew where we would go for the meeting. I also thank God that He has placed in my life people, mentors whom I can model my life after, who are really such an encouragement.

Next youth meeting: More outdoor fun as we are going treasure hunting in the botanical gardens. Do join us.

GYM Blog - Updates

Gather round everyone! We have a new prayer request tagboard! This is where you'll write out all your prayer requests that you want us to pray for, which we will, probably during our PCG conference calls or something.

The normal tagboard will be used to ask questions about the youth meetings and tell us whether you're not coming for a particular youth meeting or not.

We'll also be having a new type of post which JoyAnn will be doing, which is a prayer requests posts that will list out all the prayer requests that week.

See you for the next youth meeting! ^^

Youth Meeting 23 Jun - Solving Mysteries?!~

We had an exciting and enriching youth meeting today. Hope all those present enjoyed it as much as I did. Here's what happened.

Meeting time was supposed to be 2.30pm, but we only managed to meet everyone past 3.30pm. A total of 8 people turned up. We started simply by asking if anyone wanted to dig in to the 'marvelous' spread of snacks (Chicken wings, nuggets, fishballs, Lay's, etc.) before us, but everyone declined.

So we started off with games hosted by Abner. Splitting into 2 teams of 4 and 3, we began the mystery solving. We went over a few word riddles, discussing with our teammates and deciding on answers of all varieties. For some, we struggled and tried to squeeze answers or hints out of Abner, with varying results. We finally managed to get all the answers.

3 really intriguing maths/probability questions followed. Each of the participants went on scibbling on their rough papers, working on the different possible scenarios and combinations.

After cracking our brains (almost literally) for more than an hour on riddles and puzzles of varying degrees of difficulties, we called an end to the games. The team with 4 people won, obviously. (33% more total brain power)

Snacks were offered again, with some takers this time. The next on the programme indicated was a special item. This resulted in a soulful rendition of the song 'Along the road' by Aaron, accompanied by Abner as the guitarist. (I hope it was nice because the person typing this post also happens to be the singer)

After that, Aunty Catherine gave us snapshots of her life story, beginning many years back (From her school days!!). It was a captivating story, getting everyone's attention, even those lacking a bit of sleep from the previous day.

The meeting drew to a close soon after, allowing a time of chit chat over the snacks that were still available. Announcements of the next to meetings were given to those present, including the scavenger hunt on the 14 July, which led to some excitement among the 'crowd'.

The meeting overall was an enjoyable one. Surpirisingly, some of the 'delicious' snacks was left over, a rare occurance for a youth meeting (Perhaps that was due to Jayne not being present, perhaps).

I'll like to thank God for the enjoyable time we had and the excellent atmosphere throughout the meeting. I'll also like to thank those who put in their time and effort into the planning and execution of the meeting. Finally, I would like to thank all who made an effort to come and make the meeting memorable and worthwhile to organise.

Hope to see you all soon. God bless.
Aaron

Outdoor Youth Meeting - Rollerblading

On the 9th of June, 12 people set out to reach Kembagan MRT Station at 9.30 a.m. 10 people made it on time. Two people were late.
Once everyone was gathered, we set off towards East Coast Park via the long and tedious road. Everyone was in high spirits and after a long walk, we finally made it to East Coast Park.

Meeting Aaron at the nearby Burger King, we gathered for a breather, making the people count 13. Then we scooted to the rental shop and rented skates. Joyann's two friends decided to rent bikes instead and went off on their own. They later left during lunch.

Meanwhile, the rest of us went and had a fun time skating. Some had a few problems at first, but after we ended, everyone had at least managed to skate properly without falling too much.

By then, we were all superbly hungry and made for Burger King and had a yummy meal. Rumbling stomachs taken care of, we rested them by going to the arcade and had lots of fun playing the games there like dance revolution and daytona. Well, it wasn't really a rest for the stomachs, but anyway, after an hour or so there, we made way to play some ball games.

But, before that, Aaron briefed everyone about the upcoming youth meeting with will happen next week Saturday, 23 June.

First, we played around with the ball just for the fun of it. Then, after some deliberation, we decided to play captains ball, without the chairs, instead with moving captains. After a few long games, all of us were tired out and none of us could remember the score.

Sitting down to rest, we drank water and on the spur of the moment, decided to play 'Duck, Duck, Goose'. The funniest moment was when Joyann chased Jayne far away from the circle and we were all hooting with rancous laughter. In all, we had lots of fun with it.

Then, because some people needed to leave, we all decided to leave together. It was the long way back again, made even more tiring by all the exercise we had. But, still, everyone had an enjoyable time and I'm sure their baths were made even more relieving and enjoyable because of it.

We'd like to thank God that it didn't rain on that day and that nobody was injured badly as well.
